VITAMIN D, also known as the "sunshine vitamin" is a fat-soluble vitamin. It acts more like a HORMONE than a vitamin. It can be ingested via food & supplementation. The BEST way is to get some sunshine every day. It's stored in the liver, skin, brain, spleen & bones.
Vitamin D regulates calcium metabolism & calcification of bones. It is crucial for the absorption of calcium & phosphorous, helps maintain the nervous system, helps the heart function & aids in blood clotting. It is important in the growth of KIDS (especially bones & teeth) & is best utilized in the body with Vitamin A (fat soluble).
As spring approaches, get outdoors & get in the sun for 20 minutes a day for optimal absorption. AVOID peak hours between 11-2pm. We need more especially during/after the long winter months.
